I haven't really been here much in the past year or so and when I look back I am slammed with free requests. Yeah! I know that I am pretty much a nobody who doesn't coast on popularity like a lot of the so-called artists around here. And throughout the years many of you continue to think that just for that reason that I am going to do free requests for you. Let's get one damn thing straight. I am an artist. Despite what many of you like to think I do deserve to be paid for work.

I do not do free requests so stop asking.

If you actually produced art as much as you incessantly complain about not being famous, you would not be a nobody on here.

What have you done to advance yourself?

Just because I don't post here doesn't mean that I don't produce work. You've always been getting on my case. This isn't even about fame. It's about always receiving demands, not simply asking, for free work.

The reason why you're still a "nobody who doesn't coast on popularity" and gets no respect after all these years is only one and very simple: it's because you're a MEDIOCRE ARTIST with zero artistic vision and creativity, with an ego that far outstrips both of those. Not to mention you're an insufferable, toxic jerk that is a pain to work with, or even just be around. And the worst part is when people rightfully dislike you for it, it's always their fault and you're just "being yourself".
"I'm a professional! Everyone else is a talentless hack who doesn't deserve the hype!" "People are so stupid!" "The system sucks!" "I wish my family would leave me alone!" You're always blaming someone else for your troubles. But you know the truth? It was never any of those things: you're the architect of your own misery. Because you're a poor artist, a terrible creator, and an even worse human being.

At the end of the day, humans need other humans to survive and live happily. And you hate people too much for your career to really go anywhere. Have fun in the prison you built with your own hands.

Perhaps a little harsh in most respects, but I get the jist of what you're saying. Sometimes people just don't listen to you, do they?

I agree with you completely.  Personally I consider so-called populars to be nothing more than 'art politicos.'  And I use the term 'art' with them extremely loosely.  Because for the most part, they depend solely upon their alleged fanbase to endlessly worship them rather than to work hard and develop their wasted talent and do something upon the norm.

Rather than go on an endless rant, I say this to those who have mercilessly hounded you for free requests:  Guys, when you ask someone for a free art, it's not really free, there are costs involved, one's time, one's efforts, and one's talent, which ar things you can't refund back.  To me, if I was going to request an artist for something, not only do I pay them for their time and effort, but I put in the actual work to help oversee the project I want them to be involved in.  The key word here is, folks, INVOLVED.. as well as giving them credit where credit is due.. and to compensate them for their time and effort with hard-earned cash, and not this B.S. about giving them 'exposure' and 'experience.'  Because, guys, I've never heard of anyone making a successful living off solely of exposure and experience.

Bottom line, guys, is this, if you want an artist to honour your request, be prepared to compensate them accordingly than expecting a free lunch.  Because honestly, I find many tend to starve from free lunches these days.  But, hey, that's just me.

You think these stupid Devtards are even going to have the intelligence to read all that? The dumbshits don't even understand when I dumb it down for them. They think that being declined means that they should either push harder or try to act as if they are the victim by putting on a sad face.

Besides, even those who have hired me for commissions were just wanting free work so not one fucker has ever considered paying me for work. I also love how there are assholes who approach me demanding that I commission them.

First off, you should know me by now, that when I see these responses, I get philosophical and I just don't want to give off a shitass comment which has nothing to do with the topic at hand.  Secondly, I was empathizing with you on what you're going through, sure, I know these pudhballs won't read this, nor do they care.  But the thing is I do, and I hate when I see my friends being hassled incessantly, or treated worse than shit itself because those go under the presumptions they're God and that we don't register on their radar, except as stupid peons who think we're just going to dole out free work on a whim.

Yes, when you have told me about these bullshitters who hire you and then never want to pay you, I've always wanted to find those jerks and do something to them which would make Morticia Addams proud.  Because you're more than a friend to me, you're a person.  And yes, I realize these jerks out there don't give a crap, and that's why it bothers me more than you know.  For at least you put hard work into your art, pity, I can't say the rest for some of these members here.

I know what you mean. People keep leaving comments and notes either asking if I do free requests or just giving me details of what they want me to draw, as if I'm going to say yes.
And if it's any consolation, I don't think you're a nobody :-) in fact, you've been one of my inspirations since I first joined DA :aww:
And Happy Birthday :iconcakeplz::party::boogie::drunk:

Another one using this whole "quest for fame" excuse. Even if I were wanting fame that has nothing to do with these fools demanding free work. This proves my point as to what sort of community this is. Fools talking down on me because I'm a nobody. It's no wonder why real artists have been leaving DA left and right.

I support you fully. Many artists need our own space for our tastes (do not know if tastes it's the right word because I speak spanish) when creating our jobs. And you are one example.

I think you mean taste. Taste is not something that has any place in DeviantArt. It now just caters to the scum who are passed as artists.

It is true, but what I'm trying to say is that important fact of being an artist is to be yourself no matter what belong community, you know more than I do about DA and the situations in which these happening and I do not opine about it, though I'm also doubting some of this community.

On one hand, I agree with you, but on the other hand truthfully I find this to be a bit narcissistic to think of yourself as being "too good" for this community and calling it a wannabe art community.

Don't get me wrong, this site does have it's flaws and fill of cringey assholes... But what site doesn't ya know? Hahaha. :P
I guess what I'm saying is that part of being an artist is knowing that you'll get asked to do requests from time to time no matter where ya go.
But I don't think being Narcissitic and insulting is really going to help much, to be fair.

I've been asked a request to make pixel art of somebody's character before and let's be real here, I'm kind of terrible at it, but I usually find people who request art to be a form of compliment in that they deem my work good enough for them to request art from me.

But yeah, I can understand how where it gets to a point where you're constantly getting asked, that you would need to kindly tell them to fuck off, heh.

I guess it's also narcisstic of me when other artists tell me that there is no demand for my style and that I do not deserve to be paid for work, but only they do because they have popularity? I have been hired for commissions numerous times and it has always been by some deadbeat with zero intention on paying which is why I demand payment up front.

Nah, that's just them being total shitcunts who think of themselves as the second coming of Jeezus, pal. Out of curiosity who were these artists who said such things to you? ... Did they draw pr0nz or fetish art? :/ I feel like most of the popular artists on here are the ones who draw pr0nz and Fetish art even if their artwork is basic. I personally dislike stuff like that, I mean, I have no problem with mature artwork, all the more power to them, but I kinda dislike the thing where the artists with the most page views and whatnot are the ones who draw Fetish fuel.

And yeah, from what I've seen, I think there's always gonna be a lot of deadbeats, no matter the website. It's always good to take payment up front. Too many questionable people out there...

The admins have proven to be more favorable towards the type of artists like the ones you have mentioned. Anyone with popularity, and a paid subscription, will be favored.

It's because of popularity seekers handing money to the admins for subscriptions. Even art thieves get off scott free if they are handing DA money.
