This sort of thing has been spreading around like wildfire for the past months, and I question how something so cheap can be passed off as art. I love how I have spent so many years of my life struggling to draw my own stuff in my own style, only to be overshadowed, along with many other talented artists, by people (not artists) who trace screencaps from Naruto, Bleach, and every other freaking Japanese cartoon that lacks any form of plot or substance, if not both.
Of course, there are lots of that stuff floating around, and I know that I do rag on anime styles (thanks to biased tards who try to tell me how to draw because they don't like western styles). Some of these artists are actually good at it, and they will at least do it by drawing, inking, and coloring the work in their own style. I can think of many who do this and are overlooked thanks to wannabes who really have no business doing art in the first place.
But I can't entirely put the blame solely on those who try to pass off these anime vectors as art. I mean you got the otaku floating around DA, ready to kiss the asses of anyone who submit this garbage. A good reason why something is lingering around like a bad stench is because of the audience; along with their lack of artistic sense and taste in anything related to it.

Truthfully though, I feel pretty much the same as you do. I can't call a vectored screencap "original art". I can't even call it "fan-art". I pretty much would call it "screencrap" (you can take that if you want). I haven't experienced any bias for my sketches like you have, and really, I hope that I don't- even though I expect it.
I really place the blame equally on the otardku(c), Bleach-babies(c) and Narutards(c) for the insane amount of screencrap out there. It sucks for the folks that put their own spin on these characters, and for the original artists themselves because- for example- the Otardku(c) will '
Now then, where'd I put this flamethrower at?

Pageviews? What the hell does that get you? Nadda.
I really wish there was a stricter copyright policy on this site.

I don't have Illustrator, but I would use Photoshop's pen tool. Gets the same result and the paths will get bigger if you make the image bigger before you make the lines.

Do you know that there is a company that made a blatant copy of Super mario Bros. and selling it?

whimsical is the word.
I came across several Bleach and Naruto faces like you mention. One character caught my eye from Bleach. Looking at it I could imagine the hard work to do it, but as you mention, if they are just tracing, what's the point? Do they just like how clean it looks? Away to say they are a fan of the show?
To me, it's just a screen with an over the top enhancement, hopefully looking better than the original. If they are as popular as you say, it's probably not attracting an audience you'd want anyway, right?
Are people worried it's taking over DA or something? That's this isn't the place for it? I don't consider everything posted on DA as art, and there's always room for anything. And this to me, while only noticing it today, seems like a new way this generation of young kids share their interest in a show.
I myself don't really have a style, and I mostly do fan art, but I try to learn from it as I go. But in the end, I do it for my enjoyment and others. I assume vectoring is done for the same reason, but sad if many look at it as all out art. It's a complete manipulation, recreation, so it kind of falls through a loop hole.
I'm typing too much, so I must quit. Though, I ask, did this situation effect you in some way to bring you to this point to write about it? Do we really need more hate?
